Using Data Filters
When using 📄 Segmentsin a workspace with customers merged across data sources (see 📄 Merging Customersfor more), the segment can be applied in two different ways:
INCLUDE Customers who do not appear in the Segmented Data SourceÂ
EXCLUDE Customers who do not appear in the Segment Data Source
Note that the segment needs to be both selected in a grid with customer merging and have a customer-level filters. Deal, subscription, or product level filters are not compatible with isolating merging customers.
These two modes affect how data is filtered across data sources.
Merged Customer | Data Source | Customer Name |
ACME Corp | Hubspot | ACME Corp |
Stripe | ACME | |
Bravo Inc. | HubSpot | Bravo Inc. |
Charlie Co. | Stripe | Charlie Co. |
Include
When customers that are not in the segmented data source and Included, the filter only applies to the specific data source that defines the segment. Data from other data sources is not affected.
Example:
Segment: ACME Segment =>
Hubspot Customer Name=‘ACME Corp’Effect:
Hubspot: Only customers that match the segment (ACME Corp) are kept. Bravo Inc. is removed.
Stripe: All data is kept, because the filter only applies to Hubspot.
Resulting Data
Merged Customer | Data Source | Customer Name |
ACME Corp | Hubspot | ACME Corp |
Stripe | ACME | |

Charlie Co. | Stripe | Charlie Co. |
Exclude
When customers that are not in the segmented data source are Excluded, the filter affects all data sources. If the merged customer is not in the segment, all its data across all sources is removed.
Example:
Segment: ACME Segment =>
Hubspot Customer Name=‘ACME Corp’Effect:
Bravo Inc. is removed because it is not part of the segment.
Charlie Co. is removed because it is not part of the segment.
ACME Corp is kept because it matches the segment.
ACME (from Stripe) is also kept because it is merged with ACME Corp.
